Walk the spectacular Dubrovnik City Walls
The walls, constructed and fortified continuously from the 13th to the 18th century, never saw the battles they were intended for, thanks to Dubrovnik's adept diplomacy. Encircling Old Town Dubrovnik, these walls offer fantastic views from every angle, making them a must-see on your list. Their breathtaking vistas and historical significance make them a top attraction in Dubrovnik. A complete walk around the City Walls takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours and is best done early morning or late afternoon. The main entrance to the Dubrovnik City Walls is right after you pass Pile Gate on the main street, Stradun. Additionally, there are two more entrances: one located just after entering Ploče Gate. Opening hours in summer are from 8.00 in the morning to 19.30 in the evening.
Besides the city walls of Dubrovnik, the impressive Lovrijenac Fortress is also worth a visit and included in the City Walls ticket. Perched on a rocky outcrop with a commanding view of the Adriatic Sea, it was constructed to bolster the city's defenses, particularly on the western side, which faced Venice, Dubrovnik's main naval rival at the time. To reach Lovrijenac Fortress take the stairs from Pile Beach. Read more about the Dubrovnik City Walls.
And be sure to climb Minčeta Fortress while you're there! As the highest point in Dubrovnik's fortifications, it's only reachable from the city walls. Game of Thrones fans will recognize its distinctive shape from the exterior shots of the House of the Undying.
